Attorney Amanda Simmons of Ambika Law, PC is honored with an alumni feature article by Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law
Amanda Simmons, lead attorney and founder of Ambika Law, was honored by Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law in an alumni feature article, “Alumni on the Move: Amanda Simmons, The ABA, Lifelong Advocacy, and Lawyering with Love.”
In her article, author Deane Sutic expertly captures Amanda’s unique position as one of the only lawyers to publicly identify as both a survivor of childhood sexual assault and institutional child abuse in the so-called “troubled teen industry.” Sutic highlights the many ways that Amanda has drawn upon her lived experience to create a successful law practice driven by compassion, love, and self-care.
Since graduating from Chapman University in 2021, Amanda has quickly established herself as one of the leading advocates against institutional child abuse and neglect. She has presented on the issue at a variety of conferences focused on youth rights and child welfare, including the Coalition for Juvenile Justice’s 2022 R/ED Conference, the 46th National Child Welfare Law Conference hosted by the National Association of Counsel for Children, the 2023 Children’s Mental Health Advocacy Conference hosted by Lives in the Balance, the National Association of Women Judges 45th Annual Conference, and more.
Amanda’s unique voice and deep knowledge of institutional child abuse and neglect was instrumental in drafting and passing the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates Resolution 605, which endorses the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act and other legislation that aims to prevent child abuse in youth residential programs. Amanda is also an active participant in the ABA’s Litigation Section’s Children's Rights Litigation Committee.
Today, Amanda Simmons is a California and Utah based attorney focusing on children’s rights, juvenile mental health, educational law, disability rights, special needs estate planning, school injury and conservatorships. Currently, Amanda has two articles pending for the California Women Lawyers Association and the Loyola University School of Law’s Children’s Legal Rights Journal. Amanda’s expertise is highly sought after and she is currently booked to speak at several events and conferences leading into 2024. Amanda continues to work on building her California-based law firm, Ambika Law PC, and developing her own unique philosophy of “lawyering with love.”
